内容記述 | What Nightingale spent most of her effort at battlefield was not the struggles against inadequate facility of hospital, rapid spread of infectious diseases or rough behaviors of soldiers. It was the British Army which was on the same side as her at the point of battle. In the British Army, commanding officers were greatly obsessed with their own conservative status. Governors rejected any new idea and soldiers only kept supply without thinking of the use of it. Also people around Nightingale were neither cooperative with her work. For example, sisters who believed that spiritual relief comes before physical cure and former nurses at the hospital, obstructed her all new attempts with intolerance. Generally speaking, betrayal and conspiracy of the same side led to the defeat in the battle. On the other hand, after experiencing several wars such as War of Independence and Civil War, American people learned what would become of struggle and fight. This leads to the attitudes to accept new things and U.S.A succeeded in consisting a nation with people who have different cultures and backgrounds. Thus it was easy for Adams to begin the new social project in Chicago. Their achievement did not only affect forming the education of nursing and settlement movements but reforming society with new attempts. As it is clear from the case of Nightingale and Adams, pioneers of social welfare are destined to be reformers of old system solving social contradiction in order to improve people's life at particular time. | |||||
