内容記述 | It seems to be a contradiction that the damage from the wars lead the advance of medicine and the movement for peace. Also the aggravation of poverty during the wars fulfilled the contents of social security and this is an ironical aspect of history but a great hope for the people like the only light in the darkness. For example, Nightingale devoted herself to the nursing in the hospital field during the War of Crimea and H. J. Dunant organized The International Red Cross to save innumerable deaths and injured soldiers from the War at Solferino between France and Austria. Recently, League of Nations and United Nation were associated as the organizations to pursue for the peace of the world after W.W.I and W.W.II. In slums of the East End in Great Britain there was a serious problem of poor laborers. Upper-class students stood up to enlighten and make better for the situation of those building up the Toynbee Hall. Despite of the fact that those action were really based on reality, there was a critical opinion that they were only for the self-contentment and hypocrisy of upper-class people. However it may be a destiny that Europeans have the habit of valuing their culture and Christianity most like in the past they forced their way of life and the spirit of Christianity in their colonies. As Jewish, Christianity and Islam have the only male god, their activities are positive and active but they are always under the protection and control of Patternalism. In that aspect Adams and Nightingale, as they are female, they consider first the perspectives of the weak who are taken care of. This is one of the characteristics of female that they have the ability to understand and feel sympathy for those people in trouble as Adams had for poor immigrants and Nightingale had for patients. To describe this concept there are words like philanthropism, humanitarianism and sympathy or mercy as said in religious way and Nightingale and Adams exactly stand for those concepts. | |||||
