内容記述 | By the end of the nineteenth century, there spread the attitude of acceptance of women's own choices in United States. Although this remarkable attitude indicated women's entry to the field of politic and culture, marriage still restricted and disturbed the women's social activity. But Jane Adams, who wanted to achieve one's will, spent her life not as a wife or a mother but as one individual like Nightingale. Their free choices could be made because they were economically independent inherited a great amount of money from their parents. Economical independence is a crucial element of self-esteem as well as mental independence. As most of the upper class family sent their sons and daughters to Europe, Jane Adams went to Europe. In 1883, Lady Adams left for Great Britain with her college colleague, Sara Anderson. They visited museums, cathedrals and historical ruins feeling its longer history and more traditional culture compared to United States. Jane wrote down what she saw and how she felt during her journey with details. That means her journey did not end up only sightseeing but a search for what she should do in the future. Also Jane excels in writing like Nightingale and this ability was very necessary for her work in the future. Both Jane and Nightingale used this ability in propaganda and record. Compared with Nightingale's brief sentences Jane's were descriptive. That shows the difference of how they spent their childhood. From the sentences one writes it is interesting to know his personality, the education he had and the surroundings in which he was brought up. | |||||
