| 内容記述 | アメリカ合衆国マサチューセッツ州プリマス町は、宮城県七ヶ浜町と20 余年に及ぶ姉妹都市交流を続けている。2011 年3 月11 日に七ヶ浜町が地震と津波により壊滅的な被害に見舞われたという一報が入るや、いち早くプリマス町は支援に乗り出した。最も大きな取り組みは、町議会、プリマスロータリークラブ、そしてプリマス町周辺を拠点とするテレビ局が連携して行った募金活動のテレソンであった。町民が一丸となって取り組んだこのプログラムは、想像以上の成果を上げた。 本論では、テレソンというこのコミュニティ・プロジェクトの成功の要因を、直接的そして物理的な面と、プリマス町そのものの特性という間接的な面から考察した。第一義的には、両町の強固な関係、七ヶ浜町の甚大な被害に寄せるプリマス町民の共感、前述の三機関の精力的、そして広範囲にわたる働きかけなどを指摘することができる。さらに、もっと本質的な要因(遠因)として挙げることができるのは、プリマス町には日頃からボランティア活動などに励む人々が多く、互酬性と信頼性の社会関係資本が十分に蓄積されていたことである。この「資本」が募金活動の成功に大きく寄与している。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | This article deals with a community project conducted by Plymouth town in Massachusetts. On March 11th, 2011, they received heartbreaking news that their sister city, Shichigahama town, Japan, was severely damaged by an unimaginable earthquake and the resulting tsunami. Without delay they held a three-hour telethonfor fundraising on March 22nd. The project was a huge success; they received a cascade of donations not only locally but also from the United States and countries around the globe. This paper studies what made the telethon carried out by the people of Plymouth town tremendously successful; they had a greater amount of donations than they had expected. Here are some factors of the success; (1) the disaster of Shichigahamawas devastating; (2) the two towns have established a strong relationship between them; (3) the town of Plymouth, the Rotary Club of Plymouth and Plymouth Area Community Television efficiently worked together; (4) the annual Rotary Auction was held a week before the telethon, so many of the means and equipment were at hand; (5) social media like twitter and facebook was effective in spreading the word; (6) influential people such as the Massachusetts governor and State representatives donated; (7) well-known people in Plymouth town were on the air supporting their sister city. The kindness and generosity of everyone involved had a vital impact on the socio-economic conditions of Shichigahama town and its residents. | |||||
