| 内容記述 | 宮沢賢治の短編「猫の事務所」は,事務所の末席の書記かま猫に対する「いじめ」の問題を取り上げた作品として近年注目されているが,結末では訪れた獅子によって解散を命じられ,廃止となる。本論文はこの作品が実は政治的世界・民俗的世界・賢治の内面世界の三者が重層的に組み込まれたものであることを明らかにするものである。組み込まれた政治的テーマは郡役所廃止問題で,「猫の事務所」の位置や役割,事務室の人員構成などの描写から稗貫郡役所がモデルであり, 1926(大正15)年6月30日に閉鎖になる。「猫の事務所」はこの年の3月に発表されている。郡役所の廃止は既定のことではあったが遅延していたのを,浜口雄幸蔵相の緊縮財政のもと廃止が確定し,浜口が内相の時,廃止される。獅子はライオンとあだ名された浜口なのである。この物語の民俗的な背景は,竈の煤で黒く汚れた猫をかま猫と呼ぶことと,獅子舞が火伏せの竈祓いに訪れることなどである。獅子はかま猫の守護神のような存在なのである。さらに,同僚に対する態度を自省する賢治自身の心境も反映したものである。すなわち「猫の事務所」の獅子による解散は郡役所廃止と浜口雄幸の決断とをカリカチュア化したものであり,主人公かま猫と巡回してきた獅子というキャラクターは,竈をめぐる民俗から生み出され,職場の同僚による「いじめ」は賢治自身の職場体験によるものであった。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | Kenji Miyazawa's novella "The Cat's Office" has recently drawn attention as a work that deals with the problem of "bullying" suffered by the "kama-neko" or "kitchen stove cat," the lowest ranking clerk of the office in this story. At the end of the story, the office was ordered to be disbanded by a lion who visited the office and was then abolished. My paper intends to clarify the fact that this work is a multiplex implication of the three worlds, or the political world, folksy world and Kanji's internal world. The implied political theme is the issue of the abolishment of "gun" (former administrative unit); the Hienuki Gun Office is the model of the Cat's Office as revealed from the descriptions in the novella of the location and role of the office and the personnel organization. The actual Hienuki Gun Office was abolished in June 30, 1926. "The Cat's Office" was published in March of this year. Although it was determined by the national government that the gun offices were going to be abolished, the offices were kept operational for a while. But under the austere fiscal policy of Finance Minister Osachi Hamaguchi, the decision to abolish the gun offices was officially put into effect, and the offices were abolished when Hamaguchi was the Interior Minister. The lion in this novella is Hamaguchi who was nicknamed lion. The folksy implications of this work are that one of the feline clerks who is blackened with soot from the cooking stove is called "kama-neko" (cooking stove cat) and that "Shishimai" or the Lion Dancer visited the office to pray for safety against fire. The lion is like a guardian angel for the kama-neko. It also indicates the feelings of Kenji himself as he self-examines the relationship with his coworkers. In other words, the disbandment of the Cat's Office by the lion is a caricature of the abolishment of the gun offices and the decision of Osachi Hamaguchi. The two characters, the kama-neko, who is the leading part, and the cruising lion were born out of the folk customconcerning the cooking stove, and "bullying" by the staff of the office is based on what Kenji himself experienced from his work. | |||||
