Adams became famous in States that she had cooperated with the consecutive presidents for the right of politics of women. On the other hand, she went through the same tragedy by the World War One as the rest of Americans. In the war, a number of young Americans, including her nephew, volunteered for the army, but most of them had never returned. From the experience, she became devoted to the international acts for peace in the United Nation. Meanwhile, Nightingale established a nursing school at the hospital of St Thomas. It enabled the students to learn more skills through the intensive lectures and all the students graduated from the school with a professional skill and value as a nurse. With this school, Nightingale succeeded in bringing out many excellent nurses to the world and gradually a nurse was considered as a profession with high-leveled skill. Other than educating nurses, she involved in the work for improving the circumstances of the dormitories of the army and she left a load of writings of her work. Of all her works, she must have been addicted most in the nursing at home of the patient, which was called district-nurse. It nowadays is known as a home-helper, but its origin was in Nightingale's work.
