| 内容記述 | 大学の語学教育の現場では、時間的制約や学生の学習意欲の低下などの問題を抱えながらも、コミュニケーション能力の向上に重点を置いた様々な取り組みがなされている。本稿は、ビデオ撮影の手法を授業に取り入れた3ケース(岩手県立大学の第二外国語としてのロシア語およびスペイン語、同大学短期大学部国際文化学科の英語)を検証し、その効果と問題点を明らかにしたものである。3ケースともに、大学所有の施設や機器を使って、小グループの学生によるスキット作成やスタジオ収録、学生自身がビデオ機器を駆使したプレゼンテーションやビデオ番組の作成を授業の枠内で行っている。文法や語彙の理解と暗記に偏りがちな受身の語学学習とは異なり、ビデオ撮影は、学生が主体となって構想から実践まで関わる点で、ユニークな効果が見られる。第二外国語の場合は、ビデオ収録によって学習成果がビジュアル化されることが学習者への刺激となる。すでに中学・高校で6年間学んできた英語の場合は、簡単な日常会話だけでなく、テーマに即した発信型のビデオ作成も可能である。スキットやビデオ作成のプロセスでも、新しい語彙や表現の獲得、共同作業によるクラスの活性化などのメリットが見られる。ただし、ビデオ撮影は、シナリオ作成や準備などに、かなりの時間と労力を要するため、授業に導入するには、綿密な計画と教員による指導が必要である。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | Foreign language teachers continue to embrace the communicative approach to teaching with its focus on the learner developing the ability to actually do things with the language, not just learn about it. Teachers in EFL environments in particular though, often struggle to meet the challenge of making classroom learning applicable to the needs and interests of students. This goal is particularly challenging when the students are not majoring in the foreign language and/or the language being taught is a second foreign language in addition to English. One technique that is proving successful is videotaping. Videotaping, whether done by the teacher, school media staff, or the students themselves can increase motivation, give a sense of progress and accomplishment, foster cooperation among classmates, and provide opportunities for authentic language use. This paper will introduce the videotaping activities of three university instructors in Japan: one teaching Russian, one teaching Spanish and the other teaching English to junior college students. In some cases the students were videotaped by the instructor or school staff and in some cases students produced videos themselves. The type of activities undertaken, the results, student reactions and potential drawbacks are discussed. | |||||
