| 内容記述 | 岩手県新里村とフィリピン・ルレソン島北部のラ・トリニダッド市は、新里村出身のJICA職員の仲介で1992年に姉妹提携を行った。新里村は人口約4千人の小規模な村だが、1985年の日本政府による「ふるさと創世事業」推進の交付金をもとに、「村おこし」の期待も含めて国際交流に取り組んだ。ラ・トリニダッド一帯は、歴史的に日本と関係の深い地域だったが、第二次世界大戦の惨禍により、戦前のような交流は途絶えた。木彫り工芸や農業など双方に共通する産業を中心として、再び地道な比日交流が進んでいる。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | The Memorandum of Agreement on the sister city relationship between Niisato, Japan, and La Trinidad, Philippines, was signed in August 1992. A young staff member of JICA (Japanese International Cooperation Agency), who was born in Niisato and worked in Manila paved the way for closer relations between the municipalities of Niisato and La Trinidad. From the end of the 19th century a great number of Japanese immigrants lived in La Trinidad and its surrounding districts. But the outbreak of World War II completely destroyed their heterogeneous society. Niisato, a small village, the population of which is less than four thousand, and La Trinidad are trying to rebuild their good relationship and strengthen their friendship. Considering their common industries, forestry and agriculture, Niisato and La Trinidad began exchange programs in the fields of wood carving and agricultural training. | |||||
