| 内容記述 | 磐梯山1888(明治21)年噴火は,水蒸気爆発とそれに伴う岩屑なだれによる大災害であったが,噴火地点に近い磐梯温泉,中の湯の滞在客鶴巻良尊は奇跡的に助かり,詳細な手記を書簡として残した。この鶴巻の証言には噴火直後の噴石による被災の状況と,その後の避難行動が記されており,岩屑なだれを起こしたと思われる"破裂"が3度にわたり発生したことなども記載されていて,きわめて重要なものである。にもかかわらず,この噴火の学術的報告として研究者に引用されている関谷・菊池両氏の論文等は,この書簡を掲載した点は評価できるものの,証言の内容自体は黙殺したり改変したりして十分に活かしているとは言い難い。この論文では鶴巻証言から,噴石による災害は喧伝されたほど劇甚ではなかったこと,岩屑なだれ発生は山体の多段階崩壊によるものと推定できること,などを読み取り,同種災害時の避難行動に役立てようとしたものである。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | Eruption of Bandai Volcano in 1888, characterized by phreatic explosions and their accompanying volcanic debris avalanches, caused disastrous damage to the surrounding area. Ryoson (Joken) Tsurumaki was a guest at Nakanoyu Spa near the eruption point, miraculously escaoed the eruption and made a detailed account of the damage. This written testimony described the damage by cinders immediately after the eruption and his evacuation thereafter. It also recorded the fact that so-called "Haretsu" (explosions) that seemed to cause the debris avalanches occurred three times. Despite its tremendous significance, his testimony has not been fully utilized in academia. For example, the papers authored by Sekiya and Kikuchi on this eruption of Bandai Volcano, which have often been referred to by many researchers in their reports on the eruption, mentioned Tsurumaki's testimony, which itself is good, but ignored or doctored the content of the testimony. Aiming to alter the conventional treatment of Tsurumaki's testimony, this paper intends to conduct a complete analysis to glean new facts about the Bandai eruption, such as the facts that the damage by cinders was less serious than traditionally reported and that the debris avalanches are assumed to have been caused by multistage collapse of the mountain body. Thus the current work can contribute to improved evacuation activities in similar disasters. | |||||
