| 内容記述 | ジェイムズ・ジョイスの『ユリシーズ』第7挿話は、主に、サックヴィル通りにある中央郵便局やネルソン塔の裏手、プリンスズ通り北4-8番地に実在した、『フリーマンズ・ジャーナル』紙と『イヴニング・テレグラフ』紙を発刊している新聞社が舞台である。登場人物たちは数多くの話題を提供しているが、本論では、1882年5月6日に起きた「フェニックス公園殺人事件」とスティーヴンによって語られるプラムの寓話について当時のダブリンのジャーナリズム的観点から検証し、挿話名「アイオロス」を再考察する。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | The seventh episode of James Joyce's Ulysses, "Aeolus," is mainly set at the newspaper offices of the Freeman's Journal and the Evening Telegraph, 4-8 Prince's Street North near the General Post Office and Nelson's Pillar. This essay researches the Dublin newspapers at that time and the Phoenix Park Murders that happened on 6 May 1882 and Stephen's story about two Dublin vestals and Nelson's Pillar, "A Pisgah Sight of Palestine or The Parable of The Plums," reconsidering the relationship between Irish journalism and the mythical name of the episode, "Aeolus." | |||||
