| 内容記述 | 日清戦争開戦直後に発行された『日本風景論』の著者志賀重昂は啓蒙的地理学者で,この有名な著書によって明治期の国粋主義と登山の鼓吹者としてよく知られている。この書は日本の風景,特に火山の卓絶した美しさを強調し,当時,そのナショナリズムと美文によりベストセラーとなった。志賀は札幌農学校で農学と関連科学を学んだが,伝説では,彼は学業を怠り北海道全道の冒険的旅行や登山をしたと言う。この学歴と伝説のため,『日本風景論』の北日本の火山に関する記述は,彼の実体験に基づくと考えられていた。しかしながら,彼の日記によれば,北海道では志賀はそれほど旅行も登山もしていない。私は『日本風景論』の北日本の火山についての記載を他の論文などと比較し,J. Milne (1886),神保(1891),およびE. M. Satow ・ A. G. S. Hawes (1884)などからの剽窃が多いことを見いだした。志賀がそれを行った理由は,日本は多くの美しい火山景観に満ちていることを示し,火山の少ない清に対する国粋主義的優越感を国民に持たせようとしたためで,その結果,『日本風景論』はナショナリズムと清国への敵愾心を煽るという政治的な役割を見事に果たしたのである。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | Nihon Fukei-ron (Japanese Landscape) was pubhshed just after the out-break of the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-95. The author Shigetaka Shiga(1863-1929), who popularized geographical studies. is best known as an advocate of nationalism and Alpinism in the Meiji Period through this famous book. At that time this book became a bestseller for its nationalism and elaborate prose. In "Nihon Fukei-ron", Shiga emphasized the extraordinary beauty of the Japanese landscape, especially of the volcanoes. Shiga learned agriculture and other related sciences in Sapporo Nohgakko (Sapporo Agricultural College) in Sapporo, Hokkaido. Legend has it that he did many adventurous trips and mountain climbing around Hokkaido instead of studying in school. Some people therefore say that the description on the volcanoes of Northern Japan in Shiga's "Nihon Fukei-ron" is based on his own experiences. However, we understand by his diary that he was neither an experienced traveler nor an adventurer nor a mountaineer in Hokkaido. I clarified the description on the volcanoes of Northern Japan In "Nihon Fukei-ron" by comparison to prior articles, and discovered that Shiga committed many literary piracies from prior articles, especially from articles and book by J Milne (1886). K. Jimboh (1891) and. E. M. Satow・A. G. S. Hawes (1884). The reason why shiga performs plagiarism is that he wanted to show the beautiful volcanic landscapes in Japan in its full splendour. Shiga pretended to promote nationalism and in fact promoted superiority over Chinese non-volcanic landscapes, Shiga's "Nihon Fukei-ron" had the political role to stir up Japanese nationalism and hostility against China. | |||||
