| 内容記述 | ジェイムズ・ジョイスは、『ユリシーズ』に関してこう語った : 「もしダブリンが破壊されても、この小説を読めば再建が可能だ」。ブルームを乗せた葬式馬車は確かにサックヴイル通りを進んでいるのに、なぜか彼は有名な中央郵便局や賑やかな通りの様子を伝えようとしない。また、グラスネヴィン墓地での葬式参列中には、彼は土葬死体が腐乱する様子を次々と妄想していく。本稿では、この挿話に1916年の復活祭蜂起をはじめとする独立戦争の祥子(愛国主義)を読み込んでいる。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | James Joyce told Frank Budgen that if Dublin was destroyed, it would be possible to rebuild it by looking at Ulysses. In the 6th episode "Hades," Bloom, with three other mourners, travels on the funeral carriage. But when the carriage passes Sackville Street, Bloom's attention curiously misses the famous General Post Office along the crowded street. At the Glasnevin Cemetery, Bloom (or the narrator) is haunted by a necrophiliac obsession and narrates the physical grotesqueness of decay in death very minutely. My conclusion is that Joyce, depicting the funeral scene in 1904 Dublin, implied references of the 1916 Easter Rising and Irish nationalism in this episode. | |||||
